'I should go to that church'
The 'special sauce' of St. Paul's
‘I should go to that church.’
When people ask us how we came to St. Paul’s, this is often how we answer.
Something pulled us in.
Maybe we drove by the building that day, and remembered we were thinking it might be time to go back to church:
‘I should go to that church’, we thought as we admired the compact beauty of its traditional architecture.
Maybe we saw a social media post one of St. Paul’s members made about growing spiritually and thought:
‘I should go to that church to find a closer relationship with God’.
Maybe we ran into a friend at the gym and she was raving about how much fun she had at the potluck, the movie night, the Christmas party, or just lunch after service at St. Paul’s, and thought:
‘I should go to that church because I would love to belong to a close community.’
Maybe we even met a group of complete strangers at Wine About Winter who were so much fun and so welcoming, and who invited us to St. Paul’s that we thought:
‘I should go that church and find out what church is all about.’
None of these examples is hypothetical - these are actual stories from people who are part of the St. Paul’s community.
Even our priest - Fr. Cathie Caimano - tells us when she showed up on Easter Sunday in 2016, it was just a gig. A church needed a priest, and she was ‘Free Range’. But after spending that Sunday with us… she couldn’t quit this community.
There was a deep sense of the Holy Spirit there, and a group of ordinary/extraordinary saints who all found ourselves drawn into this place by the sense that God is present and central to our lives here.
Cathie has been with us for a decade now.
There’s just something about St. Paul’s.
It’s a sense of the spirit that fills us during worship, and carries over into our lives.
It’s a ‘special sauce’ that is part loving community, part faithful discipleship, part caring for others in Jesus’ name.
All wrapped up into a feeling that is indescribable - but palpable.
It makes you want to be part of this church.
We’re a small congregation - our membership is about 30.
But we are mighty in faith, in hope and joy. We are committed to following Jesus.
We are a traditional Episcopal Church with beautiful liturgy and music, and reverence for the sacraments. We are committed to prayer and spiritual growth.
We’re the kind of place where when we say ‘we’re like family’, we mean it. We frequently say ‘I love you’. We talk openly about following Jesus. We take care of each other and our community - and we have a lot of FUN!
Once you’re here, you’re one of us.
We use technology to stay in touch - we love the church chat! So we stay close, even if we’re not in the same place.
You don’t have to be local to feel like you belong here.
Subscribe to St. Paul’s newsletter to join this community online and be part of our spiritual journey. You’ll get weekly updates and sermons twice a month (when Cathie is with us). You’ll get theological insights and stories from members. You’ll get a sense of St. Paul’s ‘special sauce’.
And you’ll see us as an example of a small, traditional, mainline (Episcopal) congregation that is not worrying about closing our doors - we’re excited about how the Holy Spirit is guiding us into ministry for the Future of Church.
You can become a paid subscriber to support us (all of us - you included!) in our ministry.

I did not know you were at St. Paul's. My church is only 10 minutes from yours in Granite Quarry, NC. So glad to hear about the great ministry there.
